Project Description

St. Augustine's became a specialist science college in September 2004. As a result of the redevelopment project, the school will have a new sports hall in Rudolph Road and a third block on the main site.

The school will be completely refurbished and remodelled, including the addition of a new sports hall on land opposite the main school campus.  A new block will be constructed between the two existing buildings to unify the school and provide a new 'heart' to the campus.

New Build Area (3166m2)
A new sports hall and changing unit will be constructed on the land opposite to the existing campus.

The area between the two existing blocks will be enclosed within a new full height atrium to create a multifunctional space and new learning resources area.

Additional teaching spaces will be provided on the upper two floors.  The existing buildings and new block will be connected via open corridors spanning either side of the atrium.

Refurbished Area (5800m2)
The existing buildings will be entirely remodelled. A new drama studio on the lower ground floor will replace the old gymnasium.  There will also be a new entrance and administration area, sixth form centre, music department and general teaching classrooms.

The adjacent block will include a floor devoted to science - the school's specialist area .  The ground floor will be larger and and include a remodelled Design Technology provision.  The Art Department will relocate to the existing kitchen and dining area, with a new kitchen and food technology area located next to the new dining area.

First and second floors will be remodelled to form general teaching areas and incorporate a SEN and Hearing Impaired Resource Base.

External
External facades will be refreshed and enhanced to provide a fresh appearance for the whole school.

A new ramp and entrance will be formed on Oxford Road which enables extensive remodelling of the playground area flanking Rudolph & Kilburn Park Roads to provide tiered gardens and seating areas.

A new Multi Use Games Area will be provided on the existing playground adjacent to Oxford Road.
